"My favorite howler in the dialogue--"I didn't mean to kill each other, really"--sounds like the way adult Americans talk, only funnier. It also perfectly conveys the Japanese language's conflation of singular and plural and all the ambiguous crossovers between self and society that seem to derive from this."

Not that Rosenbaum (or anyone else, probably) will see this, but Japanese doesn't conflate singular and plural for pronouns -- for example "watashi" ("I') cannot generally be used interchangeably "watashi-tachi" ("we"), although both can be dropped if the subject is clear from the context.

In any case, the long review seemed almost willfully determined to not go with the fun of the movie's premise and to insist on plodding logicality (why don't they open a manhole in front of Blunt? THEY DON'T KNOW EITHER why they don't do that, their mindless bureaucratic persistence is kind of part of the point of the ending, that it takes a human's gumption and free will to make some form of sense out of the insanely complex plan).

I was delighted to learn that a soul food restaurant is finally coming to the Bucktown area and I don't have to go far to the west or south side. My first experience was pretty good even though I thought they were a little pricey.

Smoking bans shouldn't happen in a democracy -- at least, not one ostensibly devoted to protecting liberty such as ours.

Smoking is a legal activity that is easily avoided via existing measures such as no-smoking areas, required ventilation, and everybody's freedom to choose where to eat and drink, where to work, or whether to privately disallow smoking in their own establishments.

I just saw Richard Hatch on the Joy Behar show on cnnhn and Richard talked about the David feud with him and Richard even said that he thinks that David has some issues that he is dealing with that was beyond the show he did with him. In other words, he thinks David has majors issues and that David hasn't shown to Richard but has figured it out and thinks David needs help.

Webdiva - you need to wake up and smell the coffee.
Shakman lost the election because he was a white man running against a black woman in a predominately black district. He, Noelle Brennan, and the other goody two shoes are making a boat load of money over this nonsense.
Mrs. Weisberg was too polite, I would have told them all, Daley/Shakman/Brennan to kiss my ass as I walked out the door.

Speaking of douchey joints, whatever happened to that place called Hillary's Urban Eatery on Division? I went there solo for lunch and was given a crappy table in the center of the room (on orders of Hillary even though there was plenty of empty tables) and there were all kind of notes and signs basically saying "don't be a douche" even though all the other customers at the time were grade-A douches.

It's also nice that their "Record Store Day" release isn't actually available in any established record store. What better way to support local record stores than to completely circumvent them.

Its so obvious that Usama is not to blame. These hateful teenagers were probably sitting around talking a bout Usama Bin Laden, and their indiscriminate hate for Arabs when out of the blue an Arab film maker who happens to be making a film about Arab discrimination in America happened to walk in their house.

Miner neglects to point out that NY Times, in a Feb. 21 piece by publisher Sulzberger's son A.G., made a big error that gave Gov. Walker powerful propaganda ammunition. Nation correspondent John Nichols argues that erroneous article was the turning point for Walker and the Republicans.

Helen Thomas' description of JTA's coverage as "jubilant" is manifestly unfair, but okay, she gets a pass since she was watching her career end and could not have been expected to be reasonable.
Michael Miner might have done his readers the favor of actually checking out the coverage to see if it amounted to a "press release." Ditto Christine Tatum, for taking Ms. Thomas' claims at face value.
