| | | | | Loved Aquil when he was chef at Heights Kroger. Loved him when he was chef with Universal in Florida, where I was performing. Love his fish place on University across from UALR when I'm in The Rock -- where, as the only white girl I've ever seen in there I'm always "new fish." And I love all these folks with their nifty new Muslim names and the men in their spiffy taquiyas recreating a bit o' Tehran in The Rock! Plus including Christians! Enlightened! I wouldn't question Aquil too closely, however, about Louis Farrakhan, Jews ("covers for Satan," according to Farrakhan last week in Chicago, where I wasn't performing), your women or your same-sexers. In fact, I wouldn't question Aquil about much of anything. He's a BIG man and friendly. But you don't want to make him surly. Just sayin'. Allāhu Akbar down there in John Barrow. | | | | | @eLwood: Not too sure about those comments on our personal pages. Mine reads, "Doing sudoku with my daughter." "Posted by THE SYSTEM on March 11, 2011 at 7:22 PM" A few minutes ago it said something else. Now it says, "Planning my vacations for the next 2 years." I think "THE SYSTEM" must put in these clever sayings each time you click in. I suppose if you type in your own, it holds it steady. But I could be wrong. Posted by SkyPilot | | | | | |

| | | | | Gosh, maybe the coach knows more about the situation and thinks this is the best option. You don't have to be found guilty of a crime to have committed acts which would have you kicked off a team. I think the number of times a coach winks and looks the other way in the face of obvious misconduct outnumber the cases where a coach is too hasty by a factor of about 1000 to 1 Posted by mudturtle | | | | | |

| | | | | @ SkyPilot: You completely mixed up my post with someone else. Because I NEVER posted any of these things: "Personally attacked"? Reading that characterization in light of many of the posts on this blog, I'd be interested to know your definition of a "personal attack." I DIDN'T SAY THAT Has anyone called you an idiot--as you called me? I NEVER CALLED ANYONE AN IDIOT Has anyone called you "one of those Nat Gas people"? You were quick to bet I was one of those "Anti-Nat Gas people." NOT ME I can see that you're very passionate about this issue. And seldom (if ever) miss an opportunity to express your view. Passion is good. Name-calling, not so much." I AGREE. Which is why I never resort to name calling. Posted by JustTheFacts | | | | | |

This must be a default script, because I didn't post that and haven't done anything with my "profile." Yep, that was folksy, but I don't talk (or type) like that. And, I posted things before June 5th, that's just when the new system came online and older posts weren't transferred. At least mine weren't. I haven't looked at anyone else's profile. As I stated previously, I only post about things that I'm truly passionate about. I wouldn't have time to work otherwise! They are also the only things that I'm willing to post on and am willing to open myself up to people to say horrible things back, which seems to invariably happen here when you voice an opposing opinion. And, do you really think that there aren't lots of people who think like I do in Arkansas? Pictures from today's Insurance and Commerce committee meeting prove otherwise! And, so, it's okay when there are 5 or 10 posts that immediately agree with the blog post, but it's not when they are opposing? Should we assume that you work for Arkansas Times everytime you agree with Max? Or work for whatever he is agreeing with when you agree with his post? It's ridiculous! I, for one, have plenty of opinions about matters that have nothing to do with my job. And, I'm completely okay with being judged alongside companies that have brought MILLIONS of dollars to the state coffers and thousands of high paying jobs. Nothing is all bad or all good. Everything has shades of gray, and I truly don't think anyone sets out every morning to see how much they can ruin or destroy, as you would have everyone believe of the oil and gas industry. Are they in it to make money? Yes. Are you in business to make money? Yes, you are. Do they want to protect the environment that they work in and their employees live in...well believe it or not (and I'm certain you won't), but they actually do. Are there bad apples out there in the industry? I'm certain of it. Just as there are bad apples in EVERY section of society and industry. But, the industry as a whole is not out to ruin the earth. The individuals are honest, hard working Arkansans who work to put food on their tables, pay their mortgage, and send their children to school. Just like the rest of us. So...Wow...3 people dared to post something that were of similar content. Just like most of these Blog comments - there are lots of people with similar content. We just dared to offer our differing opinion. Posted by JustTheFacts | | | | | |

| | | | | Too much oversimplification, and generalities are thrown around to seemingly give solutions or observe what's wrong and how to fix it amaze me. Part of the problem is the fact that many teachers come from the bottom 1 /3 academically. Just this factor and why it has developed this way should be fodder for much research. Too many teachers, parents, and administrators value the lowest level of learning, which is basically Turn to Chapter 2, read the material, do the review questions for each section of the chapter. We'll have a test on this on Friday. In otherwords the person who is the best memorizer and able to regurgitate the most correct answers gets the highest grade. There is not much learning going on in that scenario. I am heartened that very fine writing programs have been initiated in Arkansas schools, with the requisite training for it's teachers. Literacy Lab, out of Harding is a fantastic program being utilized in hundreds of schools in Arkansas. A program that encourages personal initiave, teamwork, problem solving, and service to the local community is the EAST LAB Initiative. Mastery math is a fine program, if implemented properly. I write this just to say that there are so many facets to this thing we call education, and I haven't even gone in to performance on tests, remediation due to below par performance on said tests. Students in at risk situations, and on and on. Suffice it to say Arkansas has made steady progress, but as a nation and State we're not where we need to be. It's going to take all of us working together to make this happen, and I'm not sure that some of us are so inclined. Posted by mrprincipal07 | | | | | |

| | | | | Hey Meeks, I checked my owner's manual and I can't use lignite in my diesel engine, it has to be liquid fuel. Even then, I burn off-road diesel so it already has a higher sulfur content so hopefully the wind will blow the SO2 toward Meek's district so the moisture in the air has time to convert it to H2SO4. No issue to have more of it unless you have a body of water that right now has fish in it. Go and read up on the dead lakes in New England from the high-sulfur coal burning power plants in the upper Midwest. I am sure that they don't need tourism jobs in the southern part of Arkansas. | | | | | Ummm, Peteroo, You don't live in the area affected do you? In and around Heber Springs the amount of increased traffic due to Natural Gas exploration has devestated the roads. They are wearing them out at an so much faster rate than normal. Like 6 months wear with all the trucks, etc. is like 8-10 years of wear on these roads. They have resurfaced some parts of the roads and within months they are worn out. This is not ordinary wear that is planned for. This is an emergency, extraordinary situation that must be addressed. | | | | | @SkyPilot: Check your info. I've been posting here periodically since before the switch to the new format. And I, personally, have no idea who the other two people are you referred to. No, I'm not getting paid to post anything anywhere. I just don't like seeing people being misled or misinformed. God forbid you listen to the other side of the story, because, whether you like it or not, there is ALWAYS another side to every story. And, I'll say it again: Why is it on here, a PUBLIC forum, that ANYtime someone voices an opposing opinion from the majority (on this blog) that they are then attacked as a "shill" or they are "lying" or accused of working for whatever/whomever they are taking up for (*gasp* they have a job??)? :p Why can't you have a civil discussion and make it about the merits of the issue (ALL of which have 2 sides) and stop attacking PEOPLE for having a differing point of view? Lord help someone that posts only occasionally, because then they are accused of being "single issue posters." Maybe they have lives and jobs that keep them from posting comments on every issue known to man, and choose to post something only when they feel very passionate about something. I read every post every single day from this Blog, because I have it on my RSS feed. I occasionally come here and read the comments, but I've about trained myself not to, because I hate anymore to feel moved to post my own comment for fear of being personally attacked. You attackers should be ashamed of yourselves. Stick to the issues. Discuss the heck out of the issues, because that is what makes a great democracy. Stop attacking the people.
