| | | | | cfo Exploit the shale but not to the permanent detriment of Arkansas. If I were a future Arkansan I would say big whoop some roughnecks got a better than average paycheck for a couple years and future Arkansans for generations got ruined ground water and left behind toxic waste sites still oozing into the ground and waters. Go look around south Arkansas at what is left behind after the decade of boom and good times followed by nearly a century now with the after effects. Posted by Citizen1 | | | | | |

| | | | | Thomas Paine's "The Age of Reason" is still the best and most beautifully written deconstruction of all "revealed" religions, particularly Christianity. And it's free to read online. Richard Dawkins' "The God Delusion" is one among many excellent contemporary works. Among my favorite quotes of his: "Faith is an evil precisely because it requires no justification and brooks no discussion." Every time this or any blog ventures into this territory, Dawkins is proved correct once again. It literally doesn't matter what one says to "people of faith." No science, no facts, no contradictions, NOTHING matters because there is literally no discussing it with them. Their faith, as Dawkins correctly points out, "requires no justification." | | | | | Zath- yeah... Prayers didnt and are not going to save the people caught in that tsunami. At this point swift emergency action is the only useful next step. Posted by D burn | | | | | |

| | | | | Tokyo (CNN) -- An 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit northern Japan on Friday, triggering tsunamis and sending a massive body of water filled with debris that included boats and houses inching toward highways. The epicenter was 373 kilometers (231 miles) away from the capital, Tokyo, the United States Geological Survey said. But residents there felt the tremors. The quake rattled buildings and toppled cars off bridges and into waters underneath. Waves of debris flowed like lava across farmland, pushing boats, houses and trailers toward highways. In Tokyo, crowds gathered in the streets and tried to reach relatives via cell phone.... http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/1… Posted by eLwood | | | | | |

| | | | | Energy dissipation of both S & P waves (tsunamis are S waves) operates as an inverse function of distance. "We want God to come and save us. But he won't. God doesn't stop levees from failing, he doesn't stay the force of tsunamis, and he doesn't stop planes from smashing into buildings. Deus Ex Machina is overrated." | | | | | Gotta go to sleep... Hope this isn't as bad elsewhere... I dunno how much distance dissipates the size of the waves. But I hope its a lot. Cause otherwise it would be bad. Jesus christ... That entire refinery near Tokyo may go up!!! THAT FIRE IS HUGE. Like EPIC HUGE. I'm to tired... G'night guys... Posted by D burn | | | | | |

| | | | | D burn - It hit at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon in Japan. Some of the tsunami video is epic. A helicopter followed the edge of the wave as it engulfed whole villages. The debris moving in the wave was incredible, like large burning houses crashing into other houses. Posted by radical centrist | | | | | |
